There's a Canadian singer named Holly Cole, who used to (maybe still does?) have a group called the Holly Cole Trio. Her bass player did that all the time on his upright bass...it was awesome! He's soooo good. If I recall correctly, she did some recording with Daniel Lanois at one point too.
